The video for VIRUS VACCINE is the latest product of a collaboration between singer/songwriter Stephen Jaymes and filmmaker and music video producer Ross Kolton. Both LA-based, the pair previously created the videos for Jaymes’s recent summer singles ‘Chief Inspector’ (“visually striking!” ~Divine Magazine) and “Tokyo” (“something different and unique!” ~Folk Rock Alchemist). For their third video of the summer, Kolton and Jaymes have devised a comically original take on the song’s story about a man who misapplies the concept of immunity to a bad relationship, sticking it out to overcome his vulnerabilities. He thinks he’s getting stronger, but he’s curing himself to death. The narrator’s predicament recalls exposure therapy, where phobics are exposed to the things that frighten them to overcome their fears. Accordingly, Jaymes is portrayed undergoing exposure therapy for a fear of mirrors. These finely timed comic scenes are intercut with Jaymes performing the song at a grand piano, wearing a hospital gown and receiving regular rounds of mysterious but painful injections. Jaymes the phobia sufferer gets better, but Jaymes the misguided piano player is doomed.
